IMHO, it was a pretty good movie (considering i only watch selective chinese movies). it is definitely much much better than the other so-called china mega productions sprouting up in recent years since Crouching Tiger.
I love watching battle scenes (Troy...etc) but the one thing i hate about it is how the poor horses get trampled, beaten, stabbed, slashed, arrowed as well. they always claim that no animals were harmed so i wonder how they make the scenes so real....? hmm.
there are some similarities to 300. like the big army vs small army and of cos the sex scene between Zhou Yu and Xiao Qiao before battle. (it is cut in singapore so we only saw like 10 secs of nothing). Tony Leung seems to be doing alot of sex scenes these days. hah.
right. anw. i was nvr really a fan of takeshi BUT... he was just so cute and funny in the film. His witty repartee is definitely one of the highlights, together with the chemistry that he and Tony shares.

in fact, i think the movie has a very well chosen cast. Shido Nakamura is a pleasant surprise but Lin Chiling is erm...just a flower vase with awkward acting. Cant believe that Chow Yun Fatt was supposed to be Zhou Yu. i shudder at that and thank the stars that he backed out. TONYY~~~ Sorry, chubby middle aged men? not my kind.
actually mostly i was taken in by the majestic scenes. some of the subplots were lame and weird and too long and not even historically correct but heck, it is a movie. so just sit back and relax.
at least this movie inspires me to read Romance of the Three Kingdoms again!
cant wait for the second part to be out!
